Old depth of field tests

I don't have much spare time these days so I'm raiding the vault for this post :)  These are some old post process depth of field tests I did ages back. It's quite an expensive method so I've held off implementing it in the engine so far. I rendered the source colour and depth images in Mental Ray and used Render Monkey for these tests. The images below show the effect of  moving the focal plane through the scene.

The source images: A linear space colour image and scene depth, both 16 bit.

An old animation

Quite a few weeks back I posted these two stills (I also use the character to test my GPU lightmap tool)...

... they were taken from an old animation I did which I've recently uploaded to my website. You can check it out here.

The animation was a test sequence for a short film that didn't quite make it past the start line. The character was thrown together and animated over the course of a few evenings. About a year later (!) I built a nicer background, rendered the whole thing to separate layers and then comped it all together.
